KEY TOWER OFFICE BUILDING FEATURES MUSEUM QUALITY ARTWORK – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
CLEVELAND, OH – Key Tower is proud to present its newly decorated lobby, now open to the public and featuring commissioned permanent pieces and a rolling gallery which highlights Cleveland artists and is curated and managed by Bonfoey Gallery.
Acting as a museum of sorts, the space is designed to engage the public and bring the community into one of Cleveland’s most iconic buildings. The art can be viewed Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
One of the first pieces commissioned for the permanent collection was a mixed metal sculpture, "Strata". From world-renowned artists Moran/Brown, it examines “the inherent beauty of luminescence, repetition of form, and gradation of color.” It serves as a bold adornment that highlights and compliments the art deco influence of the space.
Additionally, and perhaps most eye catching of the permanent pieces, artists Scott Fitzel & Kathleen Grennan collaborated on the installation of 3000 hand cast glass orbs that hang from the Public Square entrance. Dubbed "Spiral Galaxy", it invokes the beauty of the heavens and serves as a stunning and grand welcome to visitors.
Frank Hyder's "Fish Series: Gold, Silver, and Variegated Series" flanks the back wall of Marble Room Sushi. The four mixed media works suggest the sensation of being amongst a school of swimming fish, inspired by Hyder's time living in the remote mountains of Venezuela.
“The space is so stunning. We wanted to have pretty extravagant pieces of art to compliment the beautiful architecture that already exists,” said Kati Kulcsar, a native Clevelander, and part of the Kalisher team who served as Art Directors for the building.
Jon Cochran, Kalisher’s VP, Business Development added “It really became about playing with the existing design and space, and making the art feel cohesive… We love giving great art to everybody, and I think Cleveland’s a city that really supports that.”
A new sculpture was recently installed as well. From artist Tatiana Blanco, "Internal Connection", is a mixed metal and threaded copper figure that is rooted to the base with open arms as Blanco says “like a tree, able to receive and to give.” In addition to the permanent installations, a rotating gallery of art, the “Bonfoey Art Wall,” is on display and curated by the 125+ year old Bonfoey Gallery (2106, 1710 Euclid Avenue). It is changed out quarterly. The next exhibit goes up July 7 and will showcase industrial photos of Cleveland from well-known local photographers.
“Millennia is ahead of the curve.” said Marcia Hall, Gallery Director and Art Consultant for Bonfoey Gallery. “They want people to engage and I think that’s what this whole building is about… They’re just transforming the building.”
After enjoying the museum-quality art, visitors can grab lunch or a snack at the newly opened Il Venetian Doughnuts & Gelato or Marble Room Sushi. Il Venetian Doughnuts & Gelato features freshly baked bagels, handmade doughnuts and gelato, and lunch options such as soup, sandwiches and wraps. It is open MondayFriday from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Marble Room Sushi showcases a variety of poke bowls and sushi rolls from the nearby Marble Room Steaks & Raw bar kitchen. It is open Monday-Friday 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with online ordering available through marbleroomsushi.com.
